10 Common-Sense Health Habits That Will Make (And Break) You

Posted on

We are so busy with the daily hustle and bustle that we forget about health. We’re all so busy with work, responsibilities, and never-ending to-do lists that we forget about ourselves. But remaining healthy need not be a chore, nor should it eat into large portions of your day. With some easy tweaks, you can feel better, look better and live longer. Here are 10 easy health habits that will have a significant impact.

1. Start Your Day with Water

You had me until “swallow.” Drink a glass of water before you drink coffee. It wakes your system, jump-starts your metabolism, and helps remove toxins that may have piled up overnight.

2. Don’t Skip Breakfast

Eating a healthy breakfast will give you the fuel to tackle the day. Opt for something more balanced — again, think oats, eggs, or fruit — rather than sweet cereals or pastries.

3. Move Your Body Every Day

You don’t need a gym membership to stay physically active. Go for a walk, stretch, dance around your living room — anything that gets you moving. Even 20–30 minutes daily can put you in a better mood and improve your health.

4. Eat More Whole Foods

Make it a point to eat more food from the earth—fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains—and less from a factory. Comele foods feed your body what it needs.

5. Cut Down on Sugar and Processed Foods

Excessive sugar and heavily processed foods contribute to weight gain, fatigue, and long-term health issues. Trade sweetened drinks for water or herbal tea, and opt for snacks such as fruit or nuts.

6. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep isn’t a luxury — it’s a necessity. Be sure to achieve 7 to 9 hours of high-quality sleep each night. It can improve your mood, memory, immune system, and more.

7. Take Breaks from Screens

We do this often in front of phones, computers, and TVs. Schedule regular time away from screens to rest your eyes, stretch, and free your mind. Even a 5-minute break from a screen can be beneficial.

8. Practice Deep Breathing

Stress is a fact of life, but how you react to it can significantly impact your health. Deep breathing, even for a few minutes a day, can help reduce stress levels and make you feel more in charge.

9. Connect with Others

Human contact is healthy for you. Call a friend, hang out with family, or even talk to a neighbor. It also makes people happier and less lonely.

10. Listen to Your Body

Your body is constantly communicating with you. If you’re tired, rest. If something doesn’t feel right, heed it. Listen to yourself, and take care of yourself before the small things become big.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need to revolutionize your lifestyle to be healthy. Start small. Pick one or two  habits from this list and focus on them this week. This gradual process can result in a stronger, happier, and healthier you over time.
